If I told you there was a way to run your business with Rolodexes and Post-it notes, you'd think I was crazy. Right? Well, you'd be half right.
Because you can run your business with Rolodexes and Post-its, if you go back to when I started my whole career, my working life back in the late eighties, That's how we were running our businesses.
We had Rolodexes and Post-it notes. And that's how we were doing stuff or equivalent to Post-it notes. And that's how we were doing everything. We didn't have computers. We had a telephone Rolodex and some paper, Post-it notes and stuff.
So when people say that they need all sorts of different types of software to run their business, it's not always strictly true.
Now I'm going to tell you that you probably can get rid of half the apps and the software and the tools and things you're using to run your business. Because if people are running their businesses with Rolodexes and Post-it notes, Why can't you do the same?
Now I wouldn't use a Rolodex in a Post-it notes right now. But, the idea is that you can do your bus... you can run your business with, say, Apple Notes or with one app that can do all of these things, can do these two things.
There was a time where I got annoyed with software, and I got so fed up with Filemaker and everything that I was using. And I went to Apple Notes, and I thought back on how I was running, how I was working before, not running a business, and how I was working before in the small companies I was working with.
And it was Post-it notes and Rolodexes, and it was working fine. So I went to Apple Notes, used Apple Notes for absolutely everything and an address book. And that was all I needed. And funny enough, I can't see a reason why I shouldn't do that.
So you need to understand how the process is with your business and then find the tools to fit. Whereas what I see is that people go and get tools because different people tell them from other areas and use these tools and then suddenly realize nothing is working because they haven't thought about the process. They've thought about, oh, I need to go and get these tools.
